AMERICAN AIRLINES, PHL-CPH ROUTE OPENING

Philadelphia CVB

Connecting Philadelphia and Copenhagen with American Airlines

OBJECTIVES

American Airlines has never served the Nordic countries with direct routes. After Icelandair pulled out of PHL, we have been working on various scenarios together with PHL and CPH Airports.

We searched for opportunities within the travel trade for both corporate and leisure travelers. Worked with the airports on both ends, government city authorities, travel trade and DMO’s to create a strong business case to support the decision.

SOLUTION

We created a 12 months roadmap leading up to the opening of the route in June 2024, that includes both B2B and B2C activations in CPH as well as in PHL.

RESULTS

Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau, American Airlines, US Embassy in Denmark, PHL Airport and Copenhagen Airport – a great joint venture that has resulted in American Airlines launching the first ever direct flight daily between the Nordics (CPH) and Philly from June 2024.
