Camping in Mammoth Lakes
There’s nothing quite like camping in Mammoth Lakes. Spending time away from home at one of the Inyo National Forest campgrounds is one of the best ways to unplug and relax in nature. The Mammoth Lakes area is home to more than 800 campsites, many of them located near alpine lakes and in forested streamside settings.

Whether you want to pitch a tent with views of an alpine lake or under a forest of Jeffrey Pine, there are plenty of places to camp in Mammoth Lakes. There are options for all types of campers: Campgrounds close to hiking trails and alpine lakesRV camping with the comfort of having your home with you, or dispersed camping without bathrooms, trash cans, running water or campfire rings.

NEW: White Water Rafting in Yosemite Mariposa County
Thrill-seekers thirst for the haystacks, funnels and hairy drops of Yosemite whitewater rafting. Located just outside the Park in the steep Merced River Canyon, a Merced River rafting trip is the ultimate choice for edge-of-the-raft excitement. In spring these Class II to Class IV rapids are all the rage with names such as Nightmare Alley, Stark Reality and Corner Pocket. As the summer heats up and the flow decreases, much of the river becomes easy Class I ripples perfect for sun-bathing on calm backwaters and chilling with friends.

Reds Meadow Road from Mammoth to Devils Postpile closed to wheeled vehicles
Currently, Reds Meadow Road is closed to wheeled vehicles for the regular winter season with an anticipated seasonal opening date of June 7, 2024, depending on weather. There will be no construction delays while the road is open, however the mandatory ESTA Shuttle Bus will still be required to access Reds Meadow.

Tioga Pass Opening
Clearing of the Tioga Road, which connects Yosemite Valley with Tuolumne Meadows and Hwy 395, begins on or around April 15 each year and usually takes between 1-2 months – this means the road is predicted to open in late May or early June. 

When the Tioga Road is closed, it is not possible to drive to Tuolumne Meadows or enter Yosemite National Park from the east. You will also not be able to access Hwy 395 from the west side (Yosemite Valley).
Yosemite National Park Reservation System
A reservation will be required to drive into Yosemite from April 13 through October 27, 2024. Some days, you may also need a reservation in order to drive through the park (for example, driving from Yosemite Valley over Tioga Pass via Hwy 120). Driving through the park will also require a reservation if entering between 5:00 am and 4:00 pm.

Most reservations for all dates from April 13 through October 27, 2024, will be available on recreation.gov. Additional reservations will be available seven days before the arrival date.
