San Francisco
Shopping in Berkeley
If you’re looking to hit the mall, you’re in the wrong place in this artsy and refined city across the bay from San Francisco. Berkeley doesn’t do cookie-cutter anything, including shopping. Instead, seek out items from around the world, one-of-a-kind crafts, and just plain cool stuff.

One of Berkeley’s most appealing shopping districts centers around Fourth Street, best known for its quality housewares and furnishings. You’ll find such well-known outlets as CB2, Design Within Reach, and Sur la Table, as well as California-based Ruby Livingdesign. There are also plenty of places to have a nice lunch, and a plaza that often hosts performing musicians.
Take a break at the Mission
Most visitors head to Mission Dolores to get a glimpse of the oldest building in San Francisco, while those in the know go there to view rare art, listen to an acclaimed choir and see one of the most stunning rose gardens in San Francisco. With its history dating back to the city's original settlers and its welcoming staff, it's no wonder Mission Dolores is at the top of any history buff's San Francisco must-see list.

Visit Mission Dolores Park where all the locals love to hang out and take in breathtaking views of the city. All you need to bring is a blanket to sit on and take it all in. There are tons of characters here, so you’ll never be bored just people watching.
Burbank, Los Angeles
Visit Universal Studios Hollywood
If Hollywood is the land of make-believe, then Universal Studios Hollywood is your chance to step into that fantasy world. On a sprawling complex in the Hollywood Hills, this movie-studio-meets-theme-park blends a studio tour aboard trams, some of which have been converted to all-electric with thrilling action rides that swoosh, dive, swoop, and astonish with dizzying special effects.

Head to the Despicable Me Minion Mayhem ride, the Secret Life of Pets Off the Leash, or the popular WaterWorld live show. Or immerse yourself in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™, complete with a recreation of Hogwarts Castle and Hogsmeade Village.
Try Warner Bros. Studio Tour
Hollywood magic still resonates at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour, a huge working studio lot in Burbank, where you can witness pieces of cinematic and television history—and also have a good chance of spotting a celeb strolling out of a soundstage.

The stalwart studio was founded in 1923 and had its first big hit in 1927 with the groundbreaking “talkie” The Jazz Singer. Because filming still goes on here, you might see stars and crew from films, sitcoms, and talk shows wandering about.
San Diego
Take a trip to Coronado Beach
Award-winning Coronado Beach runs for nearly two miles and offers family-friendly swimming, beach volleyball, firepits, a designated dog beach and some of the most glorious sunsets you’ll ever witness. Think you see flecks of gold glinting amid the cashmere-soft sand? That’s the mineral mica. If you’re really lucky you’ll witness the electric blue glow of bioluminescence in the surf at night. Also keep an eye out for dolphins, and packs of Navy SEALS out for a run!

Fun Fact: If viewed from above, the raised beach dunes spell out C-O-R-O-N-A-D-O in succulents!
Stay at the luxurious Hotel Del Coronado
Film buffs know the Hotel Del Coronado as a backdrop in the Marilyn Monroe movie Some Like It Hot, but this luxury resort has been a star among Southern California resorts since it first opened in 1888.

Stay in either the main Victorian building, loaded with historic charm, or the more contemporary The Views. If you plan to plant yourself poolside, get a room in one of the Cabana building. For larger groups or families, the spacious Beach Village cottages and villas feel like a home away from home—if your everyday home is a luxury beach house that’s just steps from the sand.
