Yosemite Winter Hikes
Most visitors are surprised to find out that Yosemite Valley sits at only 1208 meter. While it can get snow during heavy storms, the Valley is hikeable on the whole with warm boots, insulating layers and a desire to get up close and personal with the sheer granite, and surrounded by a striking palette of deep blues, bold greens and a dusting of white on the nearby peaks. Plus, the flat terrain makes it navigable for all ages and fitness levels. Add to that the long shadows created by the low winter sun and the mood is set! What better way to go nose-to-nose with El Cap?
Yosemite Winter Itinerary
Wave goodbye to crowded city centers, and take a deep breath of Yosemite’s winter. Crisp clear air, rosy cheeks, and Yosemite’s majesty practically to yourself.
Winter gifts us with unobstructed views of snow-kissed cliffs. Waterfalls reawaken and cold nights transform the spray into a delicate lacework of ice that melts from the walls in the morning sun. If you catch it at the right moment, a beautiful spray-bow lives at the bottom of Upper Yosemite Fall as the morning light bursts into a rainbow of color. If you love natural beauty, outdoor adventure and challenging yourself with new experiences, Yosemite’s winter should be at the top of your list.
Getting to Mammoth Lakes is Easy!
New this season: United Airlines is flying to Mammoth Lakes via the Eastern Sierra Regional Airport (BIH) in Bishop. The move to Bishop opens the door for expanded flight routes and even easier access to Mammoth Lakes. Connect from anywhere in the U.S. or fly direct from LAX, SFO or DEN. Regional flights from Burbank (BUR), Hawthorne (HHR) and Carlsbad (CLD) are available directly to the Mammoth Yosemite Airport (MMH) in Mammoth Lakes via Advanced Airlines.
Inspiration for your adventure
Did you know that 7 athletes from the Mammoth Lakes area are participating in the Olympic Games in Beijing? Not only that, but Mammoth Lakes is a stomping ground for year-round professional and elite athletes that want to train at altitude. Use that for inspiration the next time you are training for an athletic event and book your visit to Mammoth Lakes. Just think, you could be riding a chairlift with an Olympic hopeful or medallist! See what recent media coverage is saying about athletes in Mammoth Lakes.
Celebrating Black History in San Francisco
San Francisco will celebrate Black History Month with an exciting slate of events to commemorate the contributions of African-Americans within the city, across the nation, and throughout the American history. From concerts and special exhibitions to tours and public monuments, there are a number of ways you can celebrate Black History Month in San Francisco. If your calendar is already looking full, don't worry; you can plan an excursion of your own to experience San Francisco's Black culture any time of year.
Ultimate Guide to Downtown L.A.
See how the home of the SoFi Stadium has reinvented itself with a mix of culture, great cuisine, and an eye-popping observation deck. Hip and historic, Downtown Los Angeles (or simply DTLA) offers big-city excitement with trendy restaurants, cultural attractions, budget-friendly shopping, and major-league sports. Easily accessible by Metro and perhaps one of the most pedestrian-friendly urban neighborhoods in Los Angeles, DTLA is being transformed by a multitude of cultural offerings such as regular art walks and street festivals, as well as innovative businesses that include indoor/outdoor markets, hip boutiques, and pop-ups.
