Details on International Air Travel Policies
for the USA Reopening

The White House has issued a Presidential Proclamation which provides additional details on the new international air travel policy, effective November 8th, that requires foreign national travelers to be vaccinated in order to enter the United States. It also specifies enhanced testing requirements for U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents. This announcement is another crucial development in U.S. Travel’s long and diligent efforts to reopen the country’s borders.

What this means for foreign nationals:
As previously announced by the administration, non-citizen, non-immigrant air travelers to the United States will be required to be fully vaccinated and to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination status prior to boarding an airplane to fly to the U.S., with only limited exceptions. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has determined that for purposes of travel to the U.S., vaccines accepted will include FDA-approved and World Health Organization emergency use-listed vaccines. Fully vaccinated foreign nationals will additionally need to produce a negative viral test result within three days of travel to the U.S.

What this means for families with children:
Children under 18 are excepted from the vaccination requirement for foreign national travelers. However, children between the ages of 2 and 17 are required to take a pre-departure test. If traveling with a fully vaccinated adult, an unvaccinated child can test three days prior to departure. If an unvaccinated child is traveling alone or with unvaccinated adults, they will have to test within one day of departure.

A fact sheet that explains the new policies in greater detail can be viewed here.

The November 8 reopening is a long-awaited development that is vital to the recovery of all segments of the industry. We will continue to keep you apprised as more information becomes available.
