Dear Travel Industry Friends,

For the past 15+ years many of you have grown to associate my name with Sacramento, CA. Well, 2020 brought us all kinds of surprises, didn’t it? Add this one to your list: I am now taking you on a journey far from California to the beautiful and rewarding travel destination of Scandinavia.

In my time bringing Sacramento’s story to the international travel trade, I was lucky enough to visit many of the world’s top destinations. I was most excited when I had the opportunities to visit Scandinavia: The food, the culture, the natural areas and – above-all – the lifestyle was endlessly appealing.

I could never promote a destination I wasn’t passionate about and I am bursting-at-the-seams with passion for all this amazing region has to offer. Even before joining Atlantic Link, I was already planning my first post-pandemic vacation to the region.

Based in Copenhagen, Atlantic Link has long been the leading agency for marketing destinations around the world to Scandinavian travelers. Now with Atlantic Link Inbound, they are flipping the script and bringing visitors in to the region as well. And I could not be happier to be a part of it.

One reason I’m so excited, is that it’s a chance to get in touch with my Danish roots. My great-great-grandfather was from Denmark and I recently discovered a great photo of him - see for yourself below. It is such an honor to know that I’m related to that mustache. His name was Hans Rasmussen and he was born in the town of Randers in 1859. He made his way from there to Minnesota and then on to the SF Bay Area which is why my family is in California now. As soon as we’re allowed to travel, Randers is on the top of my list. And it should be on your list too!

If your clients are looking for dramatic scenery, amazing food, colorful history, delicious beer and visiting a place that makes you feel good about yourself, they will love Denmark’s Jutland.

Obviously, I am thrilled to be able to share this amazing destination with you and I hope you are excited about it too. As the travel trade re-emerges we have a chance to build back the entire industry in a better, smarter way and I look forward to re-connecting with you along the way.

I will connect with you via a monthly newsletter that will feature quick, easy fun reminders of all that this part of Scandinavia has to offer and will act as a direct channel to reach your preferred suppliers.

Thank you for joining me and I hope you enjoy!

Please contact me if you have any questions.

WHERE IS THE DESTINATION?
Our focus is on the lesser-known cities and natural areas of Scandinavia in Denmark’s Jutland region. Denmark is an oddly-shaped country with many islands, but Jutland is the section that shares its southern border with Germany and reaches north to the “Top of the EU” where the seas meet at the tip of Skagen. Surrounded by the major Nordic cities, the area is easy to get to by utilizing Aalborg Airport or the convenient ferry system. Plus, it’s easy to get around and explore the entire area once you’re on the ground. While here, visitors can see the some of the most beautiful, inspiring, fairy tale settings they’ve ever seen…and when I say “fairy tale settings” I mean it literally as this is the land of Hans Christian Andersen.

With names like Aarhus, Esbperg, Odense and Hjørring, the Jutland map is full of amazing cities that remain largely undiscovered by international travelers. For your customers, these regions offer a great escape and a chance to have an experience unlike any other that provides great satisfaction, peaceful feelings and a safe, clean and easy destination.
THE POST-COVID TRAVELER

The regions outside of the main city centers are the perfect post-COVID destinations for your customers. With natural beauty, outdoor recreation and some of the world’s finest local food producers that can provide visitors with unique experiences in a safe, clean and beautiful environment. The Scandinavian hospitality industry is well-educated on new protocols and ready to assist and reassure customers of their safety.
SO WHAT DO YOU NEED ME FOR?

You wouldn’t believe how many times people ask me this! Luckily, I have a great answer: I’m here to help you navigate the destination, assemble the perfect itinerary and put you in touch with the right people to make sure your guests and your organization are getting the most out of the entire experience. I know that some of these regions may be new to you and your organization, but they truly deserve your consideration and I’m here to show you why. Please subscribe to the newsletter mentioned above and let me know if I can be of any help.

SOME QUICK HYGGE BEFORE YOU GO

The region is famous for the Danish concept of “hygge” – which according to my Duolingo classes is pronounced “Hoo-guh.” Hygge is that feeling of coziness you get when you’re surrounded by the comfort of family, friends, a warm fire and some good food. It’s a welcoming and reassuring warmth that radiates out of Denmark and it’s why I insist on writing this newsletter by candlelight.

From charming coffeeshops, warm B&Bs and bakeries to fine dining, artisan markets and a nice glass of beer, Denmark has no shortage of hygge opportunities. Check the video below for a little peak of what hygge is all about.

We’ll be sure to spread a little hygge with each one of these newsletters.

THANK YOU!
Thank you so much for reading and for hanging in there throughout this rough stretch for our industry. There are better days ahead and – for your clients – I hope they’ll be in Scandinavia.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Skål!
