California Dreaming

During this uncertain period of coronavirus the entire Atlantic Link team are all working from home, avoiding non-essential travel, practicing social distancing and good public health hygiene in a joint effort to help flatten the curve.

With this newsletter, we aim to provide you with inspirational content from the several destinations we represent under the Visit California umbrella including Sonoma County, San Francisco, Yosemite Mariposa County, Mammoth Lakes, and West Hollywood. Hopefully you will feel inspired and see that difficult roads leads to beautiful destinations.
Social Distancing With California Now Podcast

What better way to pass time while the whole community is in lock down and hours and hours are available for day-dreaming and contemplation, than listen to stories about the world as it ones was and hopefully will be again sooner much rather than later. Visit California has several podcasts to choose from, and among many others, you can tune into the story about the hidden gems of Sonoma County, get a taste of culinary California or share the thrill of rock climbing in Yosemite.
Mammoth Lakes Tourism Food Bank
Mammoth Lakes Tourism, to support those tourism workers negatively affected by the recent layoffs due to Coronavirus, have set up a free-of-charge food bank. MLT partner with US Foods to provide non-perishable food items to our community in need. MLT will order non-perishable food goods from US Foods and bags will be created with items for singles, couples and families. MLT will solicit volunteers to assist with assembly and distribution of bags. Foodbank will be set up via a DRIVE-THRU pick up at the former Coach retail store in the Rudder’s mall on Main St. The aim is to be open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10AM – noon and again 3-5PM. The Food Bank will run as long as needed, and as MLT can fund it.
Enjoy a trip through California – from your couch

When you have heard your preferred California Now Podcasts and still have to stay home because of the coronavirus, take a trip in California from your very own couch with movies showcasing several locations all across the state.
Climbing El Capitan in Yosemite
Climbing El Capitan stole the spotlight with Alex Honnold’s death-defying free-solo climb on “El Cap”. The process of preparing and executing that dream was made into the Oscar-winning National Geographic documentary, Free Solo, by Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi. It is the portrait of a straight-speaking, dedicated rock climber with incredible mental control who managed to do what was previously thought impossible. He climbed El Capitan without safety ropes, putting himself intentionally into a “you slip, you die” situation that goes on for one tenuous pitch after another for 3000 feet (900 m).
The birds of Bodega Bay
The coastal Sonoma County villages of Bodega and Bodega Bay exude a sense of lonely isolation—and that’s part of the reason Alfred Hitchcock liked them. When he filmed 1963’s The Birds, based on Daphne du Maurier’s gothic tale, the towns stood in for a few scenes in the English village besieged by the film’s namesake feathered tormentors. In Bodega, for instance, you can see the two-story Potter Schoolhouse, where the birds first menaced the town’s children.
San Francisco in Bullitt
The 1968 American action classic Bullitt, staring legendary Steve McQueen includes one of the most iconic car chasing scenes of movie history. It which takes you through the steep and iconic streets of San Francisco as well as the Fisherman’s Wharf – famous for its sea lions. In the movie, McQueen plays an ambitious and determined detective. A character he allegedly based on San Francisco Inspector Dave Toschi. A man who would later become famous, along with Inspector Bill Armstrong, as the lead San Francisco investigators of the Zodiac Killer murders that began shortly after the release of Bullitt
The Troubadour in West Hollywood
Since 1957, the Troubadour has been shaping the music history and served as West Hollywood’s career-making venue. The bar offers an intimate setting for its visitors as well as big music names and emerging acts. Elton John was introduced by Neil Diamond here in 1970, marking his first U.S. show. The 2019 film Rocketman depicts Elton John’s electrifying debut as one that literally lifted the audience off its feet—and that’s how it felt to him at the time. The Troubadour is located on Santa Monica Boulevard.
